Auction Editor’s Pick: 35mm Billie Deane
The editor’s pick of the upcoming Filthy Gorgeous Auction is a one of a kind slide of the sultry Billie Deane by photographer Bob Guccione.
As an editor, I have the privilege to examine the Filthy Gorgeous archive of original and erotic slides and photographs. In this week’s auction, my pick goes to a 35mm slide of Billie Deane.
The April 25, 2015 auction is a collection of images that feature the ladies of Grindhouse. They were often casualties of the exploitation genre but that doesn’t mean all of them were victims. Between the hyper masculine characterizations and gritty aesthetics there were often seductive and powerful women running the show. Women were often utilized in Grindhouse for shock value but a few directors realized that some of the most effective Grindhouse stories could rest on the not so delicate shoulders of the females in the industry.
While each piece in this timeless collection is stunning, my editor’s pick, again, goes to lot #42, an original, erotic, and unpublished 35mm slide featuring Billie Deane taken by photographer Bob Guccione in 1972.
Still infused with the pioneering confidence that forged her native province of Saskatchewan, 19 year old Billie Deane, also known as Gillian Duxbury, attached herself to theatre groups and informal acting organizations, in the hope of gaining experience that will make her a star name back home. Speaking with the soft twang of Saskatoon, the indomitable Miss Deane is quick to demonstrate that her theatrical appeal is not confined to a crowdpulling 39-25-37. Billie is a confirmed Shakespearian addict, though her tastes range as wide as Pinter, Brecht and Pirandello. Billie was not only Penthouse pet of the Month in March 1972, but a model and actress. She’s known for her roles in The Sweeney (1975-1978), The Professionals (1978), which was a British action detective series, and the game show Play Your Cards Right (1982-1984).
