Smartphone Dating Apps Revolutionizing The Dating World
Wanna get freaky? There’s an app for that.
Online dating is certainly not new but smart phone dating apps are taking it to new levels. Websites such as OkCupid, Match.com, Plenty of Fish, and eHarmony have been in business for years now. Each has successfully brought people together to form fully fledged relationships, some of which have led to marriage. But as smart phones become more popular, dating apps have begun to overtake these dating sites because of how much more convenient an app is. One of the top dating apps is Tinder, an app where people see a picture of a potential match and swipe left if they are not interested or swipe right if they are. Tinder might be the best hook up app at the moment but what about the copycats?
Vanity Fair posted an article in September of 2015 blasting Tinder and dating apps similar to it for perpetuating hook up culture, where people quickly meet and have sex without any strings attached, often leading them to never seeing each other again. “They [men on Tinder] start out with ‘Send me nudes,’ ” says one of the women interviewed by Vanity Fair. “Or they say something like ‘I’m looking for something quick within the next 10 or 20 minutes—are you available?’ ‘O.K., you’re a mile away, tell me your location.’ It’s straight efficiency.” Although it rarely leads to anything serious, the magazine claims that Tinder is killing the potential for real relationships.

There are several other dating apps like Tinder that are based on religions and lifestyles including JSwipe and High There! JSwipe is in the same vein of Tinder but is exclusive to Jewish people. The perk is that you will find someone similar to you because you will have both grown up in Jewish households and your family will approve of this person. Meanwhile, High There! is the Tinder for weed smokers. The app takes the Tinder model one step further by optimizing possible matches according to consumption preferences. You can indicate if you are a lazy or active stoner or whether you prefer a joint or vape. These preferences will be taken into consideration to find an ideal fit for you.
Indulge In Fetishes
But there are even stranger dating apps that cater to specific and odd needs. In an app called Carrot, the man offers a gift and women compete for the chance to date him and grab the gift. It’s bribery, but people don’t seem to mind. People can bribe others with flowers, chocolates, jewelry, parties—basically anything they want. The name of the app comes from the phrase “dangle a carrot” in front of a horse to get it to do what you want. Meanwhile, Salad Match is a dating app where you publish what salads you love, your dietary restrictions, and when you’re normally in your local Just Salad and the store pairs you up with matches. Furthermore, there is a dating app called Crowd Pilot where you can live blog your dates and get tips and advice from friends and strangers on what to do.
Whatever you are interested in, there is probably an app for it. There is Love Finger Scan for you to find “the one” via fingerprint tests, Passion for you to rate your hook up’s bedroom performance for others to see, Wealthy Men for you to find… wealthy men and many more apps that cater to almost anything. While some people claim that these apps promote hook up culture because people hit it and quit it, these apps will continue to be popular because of their convenience for smart phone users.
